MantaBio is an early-stage startup redefining how microbial contamination is detected in biopharma manufacturing. Our fully automated, sample-to-answer PCR platform merges microfluidics, optics, thermal control, embedded electronics, and software into one compact, high-performance device. With strong pull from major industry players, we’re on the cusp of something transformative — and we’re building the core team to get us there.

Why This Role Matters

As Lead Systems Engineer, you’ll be instrumental in integrating mechanical, electrical, fluidic, optical, and consumable components into a cohesive platform. You’ll help drive the development of a complex, fully integrated product — transitioning from prototype to commercial readiness. This role requires deep technical fluency, cross-disciplinary thinking, and a hands-on approach.

What You’ll Do

Systems Integration and Prototyping

Design and build electromechanical subsystems, including fluid handling, thermal cycling, and optical detection.
Develop breadboards and alpha prototypes to mitigate technical risk prior to commercial development.
Integrate pumps, valves, manifolds, heaters, sensors, and optics into reliable systems.

Design & Development

Use CAD (SolidWorks preferred) for mechanical design and support prototyping via CNC machining, 3D printing, or injection molding.
Analyze experimental data to inform iterative design (bonus points for Python or MATLAB fluency).

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with software, biology, chemistry, and electronics teams to ensure seamless integration.
Operate with autonomy and a “get it done fast” mindset in a startup environment.

What You Bring

10+ years of experience as a systems engineer in hardware-focused environments.
MS in Engineering preferred but not required.
Proficiency in CAD and one or more data analysis environments (Python, MATLAB, etc.).
Hands-on, self-directed, and execution-driven mindset.

Senior Mechanical & Microfluidics Engineer

Senior Mechanical & Microfluidics Engineer

As our Senior Mechanical & Microfluidics Engineer, you’ll be a cornerstone in developing the next generation of our system. You’ll lead design across key mechanical and microfluidic subsystems, helping us transition from concept to robust, manufacturable product. What You’ll Do

Mechanical and Systems Architecture Design

Lead development of mechanical subsystems, including enclosures, motion components, and thermal systems.
Establish and manage CAD and PDM environments (SolidWorks preferred).
Rapidly prototype and iterate on electromechanical concepts; support DFM and vendor interactions.

Microfluidics and Consumables

Design and simulate microfluidic components for assay integration.
Translate bench chemistry into scalable fluidic implementations.
Model fluid flow (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS) and develop fabrication protocols.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with biology, chemistry, systems, and electronics teams.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and support regulatory documentation.

What You Bring

5+ years of experience, ideally in diagnostics, life sciences, or medical devices.
BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
Expertise in CAD (SolidWorks strongly preferred); experience with PDM systems.
Hands-on skills in prototyping, testing, and integration.
Experience in microfluidics, thermal systems, and regulated manufacturing (ISO 13485/14971 preferred).
Strong communication and documentation abilities.
